By-Election Announced in Manang Provincial Assembly Constituency-2

Manang: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that a by-election will be held in Provincial Assembly Constituency-2 under Manang Constituency No. 1 on Kartik 17 (November 17).

Seat Vacant After Supreme Court Verdict

The by-election was necessitated after the Supreme Court disqualified Rajiv Gurung, widely known as Deepak Manange, ruling that he did not meet the legal requirements under Article 178 (1)(e) of the Constitution. Following the court’s decision, his position has been vacant since Mangsir 4, 2079 BS (November 20, 2022).

By-Election Schedule

According to Govinda Prasad Aryal, Acting Chief Officer of the District Election Office, the election process officially began on Bhadra 28 (September 13). The key dates announced are:

Bhadra 20 (Sept 5): Establishment of the Returning Officer’s Office

Asoj 21 (Oct 7): Nomination registration of candidates

Asoj 25 (Oct 11): Final candidate list and election symbol distribution

Kartik 11 (Oct 27): Appointment of polling officers and election staff

Kartik 16 (Nov 2): Deadline for voters turning 18 to be eligible

Kartik 17 (Nov 3): Voting day

Voter Base

In the 2079 BS elections, there were 4,197 registered voters in Manang-2, and Gurung was elected unopposed. The final voter list published on Bhadra 25, 2082 BS will be used for the upcoming by-election.
